Floral Watercolour Course
What you’ll learn…
-
Marney wants to help you develop your artist’s eye, that unique perspective that sees the world in a more holistic way.
Learn how to look at your painting and see where it’s not quite right. Does it need more contrast? Does the centre of interest stand out enough? Does it glow?
-
The colours, the light, the subject matter and the composition all need to work together in harmony. At every stage of your painting process, from selecting the right reference photo to completion, you need to focus on the feeling you’re trying to create, and infuse that feeling into every aspect of your painting.
-
In watercolour, luminosity comes from the white of the paper. It underlies everything one paints; it is the breathing soul of the painting. As artists, we need to honour and save this brightest white, which magically appears lighter the more darks we add around it. But darks can be luminous too, if our paints are transparent, allowing all our colours to glow with this luminosity that is the very essence of watercolour.
In this 8-lesson course, Marney will guide you through all stages of creating your painting. From selecting the right reference photo to learning how to capture light, this course is designed to help you find your voice as an artist. It is intended for intermediate artists, who should have some familiarity with basic watercolour techniques, such as painting wet-in-wet. This isn’t a live course; there's no Zoom component or pre-recorded lessons. Instead, it is designed to be completely flexible and self-paced, allowing you to start and stop whenever you like.
What’s Included:
Printable PDFs related to the lesson, such as photographing flowers for painting, composition, values, etc.
An image showing one of Marney’s paintings at different stages, from the initial drawing to the finished piece, accompanied by commentary for each stage.
Progressive images showing the development of work by 5 previous students over 8 lessons, including a critique of each student's work at each stage (or their reference photos for lesson one).
A list of general points dealing with the most common issues the students face in each lesson.
Six videos of Marney demonstrating various techniques, such as negative painting or soft edges, some on an original work in progress. While these are not professionally-made videos, students from previous courses found them very helpful.
This course is designed to inspire and empower you to develop your own painting style. The main focus is helping you learn how to get started, develop your own ideas, and address challenges independently. Through the techniques and concepts shared by Marney, you will gain insights that help you transform your own unique vision into original works of art.
